Tourmaline v. Indicolite, Rubellite

Tourmaline v. Indicolite, Rubellite

Capelinha Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil

8.5cm Indicolite  x  7.25cm Rubellite

This specimen was part of a small pocket opened in the spring of 2013.  There were five larger crystal in the pocket; three have the same coronation as this lovely specimen. What is particularly interesting about this piece is the crystalized rubellite that that is in such great balance with the indicolite crystal. We love that you can see the crystal habit of the rubellite. Of course, the star is the fine multicolored indicolite. The photo shows you the lovely color transition of the indicolite from dark blue to lighter blue to green and a return to a series of blue. It’s beautifully set off with the vibrant pink of the rubellite.  It’s a fine specimen.  The indicolite has one repair.
